The Viola director wanted to enter the Lega board today but didn’t collect the 14 votes needed during the Assembly at Hilton in Milan.

“Barone is a splendid novelty for Serie A, like the President [Rocco] Commisso,” Lega chief Paolo Dal Pino said according to FiorentinaNews.

“I support that Commisso manages to do the things that can’t easily be done in Italy, like the stadiums, a topic the League will work on.

“Joe is a valuable manager and I’m sure he will be elected for four years in the next cycle.”

But Barone was happy to have coach Iachini on board for next season at the Artemio Franchi.

“We’re satisfied, he has done a great job and I’m happy with the choice for next year,” Barone told Sky Sport Italia.

Fiorentina have climbed the table since replacing Vincenzo Montella with Iachini in December and currently sit 10th in Serie A after 37 games.
