Former Milan captain Franco Baresi feels Olivier Giroud ‘can make a great contribution’ after arriving from Chelsea ahead of 2021-22.

The French striker scored a brace against Cagliari and has started both games in Serie A so far, but the 34-year-old then tested positive for coronavirus and could struggle to be back in time for the third game against Lazio this weekend.

Serie A Milan 4-1 Cagliari: Giroud at the double

Zlatan Ibrahimovic seems set for a return against Maurizio Sarri’s men and should fill the void after the former Chelsea man, who signed a two-year deal until June 2023 at Milanello.

Former centre-back Baresi has praised the former Arsenal and Montpellier striker’s ‘approach’ and believes he can help improve the results further.

“I have to congratulate Giroud,” Baresi told Sky Sport Italia. “He’s doing very well and has made himself available.

“His approach was important, he can make a great contribution.”

Milan finished second in the League last term and have picked up six points after the first two games in Serie A so far.
