Nicolò Barella announces he will take legal action after Maurizio Petra, the alleged source of gossip columnist Fabrizio Corona said the Inter midfielder is also involved in a betting scandal in Italy.
Petra, uncle of former Inter full-back Antonio Esposito has emerged as the alleged source of Corona who was the first to leak Nicolò Fagioli, Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Fagioli’s involvement in a betting investigation by the Turin and FIGC Prosecutors.
However, the gossip columnist named other players too, including Federico Gatti, Nicola Zalewski, Stephan El Shaarawy and Nicolò Casale. Not only all these players are not under investigation, but many will also sue Corona for defamation.
Petra, who had appeared in some videos with Corona while discussing the involvement of Serie A players in the scandal, released an interview with the Italian newspaper La Verità on Friday, saying Barella was among those gambling on football.
The Nerazzurri and Italy star has reacted angrily on social media with two Instagram stories.
He first blamed La Verità – literally ‘The Truth’ in Italian – by writing: “From a newspaper called The Truth, I would expect more reliability, the only truth is that you are clowns.”
The 26-year-old added: “I’ve remained quiet for too long despite all I’ve read about me. I’ve never liked gambling, let alone betting (especially on my job). The only thing I care about is to defend my daughters and my family from this sh**. This is why I will take legal action from today.”
