Inter and Nicolò Barella are far from reaching an agreement over a renewal and Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid are now monitoring his situation at San Siro.

The Nerazzurri are hoping to tie the 24-year-old midfielder down to a new long-term deal at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Barella has been nominated for the Ballon d’Or 2021, as he continues to impress with Inter and Italy.

The Azzurri star signed a four-year deal with Inter when his move from Cagliari was made permanent in September 2020.

Inter are trying to fend off possible suitors by renewing his contract early, but the first talks have only established the big gap between the offer and the demand.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports the player’s agent Alessandro Beltrami has asked for more than €6m a season, as a reward for the Sardinian’s contribution so far.

Inter are currently not willing to arrive at those heights, as the newspaper claims the Nerazzurri are offering between €4m and €4.5m.

The parties are not in a hurry, given the fact that Barella has almost three years left on his contract, but the report highlights the interest from Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Barella helped Inter to the Europa League Final in his first season with the club and then won the Scudetto in the second term.

He has played 96 competitive games since joining the Beneamata, contributing eight goals and 26 assists in the process.

  1. Lol, but they paid 6mm to Calhanoglu. Oh well. Our loss is Inter’s loss which is our gain. No highly paid mediocre player on our books and their best player at risk.

  2. @vero rossonero Calhanoglu this Calhanoglu that. You guys really can’t get Hakan out of your head, eh??

  3. @ kev

If Cashanoglu is worth 5m a year, then Barella is worth 10m a season at least.

This is what happens when you overpay a player.

  4. I do feel like the Inter players have been given a bit of a raw deal. Championship winning squad which was told it would be reinforced and it the top stars wouldn’t be sold.. only to have the two top stars sold, the bare minimum brought in as a reinforcement and all of this ambiguity over being sold. I remember when the Li nightmare was going on, the results suffered on the pitch.

  5. So I understand that Calha might be overpaid, but what if you consider his transfer fee was nothing. Does it still count then? If you consider the total amount paid for a player to be transfer fee plus wages minus (any) fee you sell him for divided by the number of years he plays for you, only then can you truly know how much was spent on someone? Just my brain spitting out some economics.

  6. @ chris dont forget Zhang calling from his uber expensive villa to ask the players to take a pay cut…and people wonder why Lukaku ran home.
