Nicolò Barella believes Inter ‘proved to everyone that we’re a team and we’ve got balls’ after reaching the Europa League semi-final.
The former Cagliari midfielder scored the opener in this 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen, setting up a semi-final date on August 17 against Shakhtar Donetsk or FC Basel.
“We proved to everyone who said we weren’t a team that we are a great group and we’ve got balls,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
Inter could also have had two penalties, but they were revoked via VAR, one of them because of Barella’s handball.
“I was on the ground and didn’t even see the ball, it just hit me. Never mind, we got the result and are in the semi-final. We could’ve killed it off earlier and rested a little more, but Bayer Leverkusen are a very strong side and caused us problems.
“Now we have proved ourselves as a team and want to reach the Final. Just as we respect everyone in the competition, they have to worry about us too.”
