Barella: ‘I will always be grateful to Mancini’

Inter midfielder Nicolò Barella said he ‘will always be grateful’ to Italy CT Roberto Mancini and aims to go ‘all the way’ in Euro 2020 this summer.

The Nerazzurri midfielder has established himself as a key member both at San Siro and with the Azzurri since his move from Cagliari in 2019.

But he had already been given his debut with the national team during his time in Sardinia and thanks the coach for having shown faith in him despite the jersey.

The Nerazzurri midfielder has established himself as a key member both at San Siro and with the Azzurri since his move from Cagliari in 2019.

But he had already been given his debut with the national team during his time in Sardinia and thanks the coach for having shown faith in him despite the jersey.

“I will always be grateful to him, because he made me a starter without looking at the shirt I was wearing, during my time at Cagliari,” Barella told France Football.

“He created a relaxed atmosphere, with is not easy given that certain League tensions must be cancelled out.”

Barella spoke of his teammates in the Italy midfield and praised Chelsea star Jorginho and Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Marco Verratti.

“Jorginho brings order to the game, he passes the ball at the right time,” Barella continued. “Verratti, you have to shoot him to take him off.

“He is the talented player of the team, him and [Napoli forward Lorenzo] Insigne. Our target at the European Championship is to go all the way.”
