Barcelona’s offer to Cavani may force Juventus to look elsewhere

Barcelona’s offer to veteran striker Edison Cavani may force Juventus to look elsewhere as they search for a new striker.

The Bianconeri have struggled to find the back of the net this season, scoring only 23 goals in the opening 17 games, and so are looking for a new striker ahead of next month’s transfer window. Cavani is one of these options, alongside Paris Saint-Germain forward Mauro Icardi.

Juventus made an offer to Cavani in recent days but now they risk losing out to Barcelona, who are looking for a replacement for Sergio Aguero following his retirement due to health reasons earlier this week.

Calciomercato.com reports that Barcelona have offered the 34-year-old Uruguayan forward an 18-month contract. Until June the player would earn €3.5 million net plus €1 million in add-ons and next season this would rise to €4 million net plus €1.5 million in add-ons related to both team and individual goals.

Cavani has reportedly said yes to this offer and now needs to find an agreement with Manchester United to leave on a free transfer in next month’s transfer window. Juventus have been informed of this but have no plans to raise their offer, forcing them to look elsewhere for a new goalscorer.
