Juventus will not now be facing Barcelona at Camp Nou for the Trofeo Gamper, instead moving to the smaller Johan Cruyff stadium in front of 3,000 fans.

There was great excitement when it was announced Juve would be Barca’s opponents for the annual pre-season friendly event on August 8.

Fans hoped to see Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi do battle once again on the iconic Camp Nou turf.

Previous restrictions would’ve allowed for 15,000 people, 20 per cent capacity of the massive arena.

However, growing COVID-19 cases have prompted a Government clampdown on large gatherings to a maximum of 3,000 people.

Instead, the match will take place at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, next to the club’s training facility and youth academy.

This will be the first meeting between the clubs since the Champions League group phase last season, which saw Barcelona win in Turin and Juve return the favour in Catalunya.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in that fixture, with Weston McKennie also on target.
