Reports from Spain claim that Barcelona are looking to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer in the summer.

The 28-year-old Frenchman has entered the last six months of his contract in Turin and hasn’t begun detailed negotiations regarding a new deal yet. Last year, things ran down to the wire before a one-year contract extension was agreed just days before his deal expired in June.

Barcelona are still in an extremely delicate financial position and cannot afford to spend too heavily, making the free agent market far more important for the Catalan giants, seen with their recent acquisition of Ilkay Gundogan.

As reported by Catalan broadcaster 3Cat via TMW, Barcelona are interested in picking up Rabiot on a free transfer in the summer, assuming he doesn’t end up signing a new contract with Juventus.

Recent reports detailed how Inter CEO Beppe Marotta was also interested in the 28-year-old, who would prefer to move abroad rather than join another Italian club should he leave the Old Lady at the end of the season.

Current indications suggest that Rabiot will wait to make a decision until later in the year, similar to his behaviour at the end of last campaign.
