Barcelona emerged with late interest in Sofyan Amrabat in the January transfer window and the Catalan giants are still in close contact with the Fiorentina midfielder, reports detail.

The 26-year-old was one of the stars of the show for Morocco at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, playing every available minute in their historic run to a fourth place finish.

Amrabat’s work in Qatar saw him quickly linked with top clubs around Europe, but things were quiet in the January transfer window until Barcelona emerged in the final days, offering Fiorentina a loan deal with a buy option attached, which was rejected.

As reported by TMW, Barcelona haven’t forgotten about Amrabat and remain in close contact with the player and his entourage, keen to lay the foundations of a move in the summer.

The Moroccan midfielder’s future is explicitly linked to that of Franck Kessie, who has struggled to impress in Catalonia since his arrival on a free transfer last summer. Should the Ivorian midfielder be sold in the summer, the Blaugrana would immediately look to make a move for the Fiorentina man.

In the meantime, the Viola are hoping to tie down Amrabat to a new contract and will continue talks over the coming months. They could include an accessible release clause in his contract in an attempt to iron out an agreement.
