Lorenzo Insigne is no closer to extending his Napoli contract, which expires in 2022, and Barcelona have now reportedly asked for information.

The 30-year-old captain is only tied to his hometown club until the end of next season.

According to Sportitalia, the tension remains with President Aurelio De Laurentiis and he is by no means guaranteed to sign an extension.

Negotiations have barely even progressed for months and now Barcelona have seemingly made an enquiry with Insigne’s entourage.

He scored 19 goals and provided 11 assists in 48 competitive games this term, while his profile has only increased with strong performances for Italy at Euro 2020.

At the age of 30, Insigne might think it the right time to experience a new league and branch out from his beloved Partenopei.

The failure to qualify for the Champions League and departure of coach Gennaro Gattuso, replaced by Luciano Spalletti, only intensified the tension at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
