According to reports in Spain, Barcelona still hope to sign Alvaro Morata in January and Joan Laporta met Atletico Madrid chiefs yesterday.

The Spanish striker is on loan at Juventus until the end of the season, but the Bianconeri won’t make his move permanent in the summer for €35m.

Max Allegri blocked the striker’s exit in January as the Old Lady seemed unable to afford a valuable replacement for the Spain international.

However, Dusan Vlahovic’s move to Turin means Morata could leave if Juventus save €5m from the player’s loan fee.

Barcelona coach Xavi is still pushing to sign Morata and according to El Chiringuito, club President Laporta flew to Madrid yesterday night to meet Atletico’s chiefs.

The Catalans are reportedly doing ‘anything they can’ to get the striker in the January transfer window.

Morata’s agent did also take part in the meeting, but the two clubs are still far from reaching an agreement.

Edu Aguirre claims the Colchoneros won’t sell Morata to Barcelona as they are planning to replace Luis Suarez with the Spaniard in 2022-23.

The former Barcelona star is expected to leave the Wanda Metropolitano in July, while Morata will return from his two-season loan at Juventus.

  1. It’s a difficult situation but really Juve holds the cards here because if they want to keep him until the end of the season to play alongside Vlahovic to help seal a top 4 spot, then there’s not a lot Barca can do about it.
