A fresh Mundo Deportivo report claims that Barcelona director Deco has persuaded the defender to stay until the end of the season and potentially extend his contract.

According to the Spanish newspaper, Deco persuaded the defender and his entourage during a long meeting on Tuesday night, during which the former Portugal international ‘strongly insisted’ and eventually convinced Araujo to stay.

Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona players and coach Hansi Flick also contributed to Araujo’s change of mind, given that the 25-year-old was convinced about joining Juventus this month.

Barcelona President Joan Laporta had said on Tuesday that the club wanted Araujo to stay.

According to the report, Barcelona could now resume contract extension talks with the defender’s entourage as Araujo’s deal with the club expires in 2026.
