Barcelona coach Xavi blames Mourinho after car park rant

Barcelona boss Xavi insists players and coaches must ‘lead by example’ and hopes he will never behave like José Mourinho after Wednesday’s Europa League Final against Sevilla.

The Special One was furious with referee Anthony Taylor after losing to Sevilla on penalties in a Europa League Final on Wednesday.

Mourinho waited for Taylor inside a car park at the Puskas Arena, insulting him. He had already blamed the English official during his post-match interviews claiming he ‘looked Spanish.’

Barcelona coach Xavi was asked his thoughts on the incident during a post-match press conference on Saturday.

“Just as we ask not to be insulted, we must be the first to lead by example,” the former midfielder said, as quoted by Marca.

“Behaviour is important, and I hope I’ll never give this image.”

UEFA have formally opened disciplinary proceedings against the Portuguese coach, who now risks a lengthy ban.

Mourinho will be serving a one-match ban in the last game of the season against Spezia at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday. The Giallorossi can still get a Europa League placement being one point above seventh-placed Juventus in the Serie A table.
