Sporting Gijon defender Federico Barba is open to a Napoli transfer for a reunion with Maurizio Sarri, “one of the best Coaches in the world.”

Now 24 years old, centre-back Barba came up through the Roma youth academy and had loan spells with Grosseto, Empoli (where he worked with Sarri) and VfB Stuttgart.

He was sold to Sporting Gijon this season and has been playing consistently in La Liga 2.

“Anything could happen, but now I am concentrated 100 per cent on my team,” Barba told Tuttonapoli.net.

“I don’t read the papers much, but I certainly know Sarri very well and he is one of the best Coaches in the world. I also know that Napoli already have some very good defenders.”

Barba would be brought in for Nikola Maksimovic, who is ready to join Spartak Moscow on loan.
