The Italian international had previously admitted that the condition could end his career, and Gianluca Di Marzio’s website reports he will announce he is hanging up his boots at a Press conference tomorrow.

However, the former Juventus man will not be leaving football altogether, and is set to take up a role on the staff of sporting director Walter Sabatini.

Balzaretti played the full 90 minutes in the last game of last season, a 2-1 defeat to Palermo, but it appears he has conceded defeat in his long battle with injury.
