The left-back was re-routed to right-back due to injuries and bans in tonight’s 2-1 semi-final victory over Germany.

“It is immensely satisfying for this victory, this performance and reaching this Final. We’ll enjoy this and from tomorrow think about the Final, as we want to win,” said Balzaretti.

He gave away a penalty in stoppages for a handling offence, though he was being dragged back by Miroslav Klose at the time.

“In all honesty, I don’t know what the referee whistled for. I was really disappointed we didn’t keep a clean sheet.

“Whether it was a penalty or not, it doesn’t matter now. I thought the referee had whistled earlier, so I’m not entirely sure. Anyway, who cares?!”
