Mario Balotelli has reportedly terminated his contract with Swiss Challenge League side FC Sion and is now a free agent according to an update from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Balotelli left Turkish outfit Adana Demirspor, where he had scored 18 league goals in 31 appearances, to join Sion for a reported fee of €2.62m last August. The former Inter and Milan striker had signed a two-year contract at the time.

By the end of the 2022-23 campaign, Sion ultimately finished bottom of the Swiss top flight and were demoted at the hands of Stade Lausanne-Ouchy in the relegation play-off.

After a turbulent year and plenty of headlines, Balotelli now goes in search of the 12th club of his career, however, there are still clubs ready to give the 33-year-old another chance.

According to reports from local reporter Salim Manav, the aforementioned Adana Demirspor are interested in a move to bring Balotelli back to the club after his year away in Switzerland.

The 18 goals he scored in the Turkish Super Lig in 2021-22 was Balotelli’s best ever return in a single season, a feat he had only matched once previously, during the 2017-18 campaign with Nice.
