Mario Balotelli has had his say after being involved in a car accident in Brescia on Thursday evening, sharing his surprise and frustration over making the headlines again.

Balotelli crashed his Audi RS Q8 into a wall on Thursday evening, escaping without serious injury, although he refused to provide a sample for a breathalyser test, which led to his licence being confiscated.

The following day, on Friday, Balotelli spoke to Dillinger news, operated by the infamous Fabrizio Corona, to give his version of events.

The Adana Demirspor striker said that he could not believe that these sorts of stories would still be of interest.

“I just crashed my car and then went home in another car,” Balotelli said.

“I thought that creating a big fuss over something like this had gone out of fashion. I can understand if others were involved, or if somebody got hurt, but I just crashed the car and went home.”

He continued: “There are a billion problems and the only thing I see in the newspapers is my accident. There wouldn’t have been an issue if I didn’t have comprehensive insurance, but thankfully I did.”

“Instead of talking about important issues, they talk about this. Unbelievable,” Balotelli told the press, reported via TMW

  1. My favourite Balotelli story – although it’s probably apocryphal – is when he was stopped by police in Manchester and had €10,000 in his car. Asked by a policeman why he had so much cash in his car he replied “because I’m rich’.
