Mario Balotelli insists there are ‘Italian strikers who are fit’ in an Instagram post apparently aimed at Italy CT Roberto Mancini.

The Azzurri coach had complained about his lack of options in the attacking department. With the injury of Ciro Immobile, only Gianluca Scamacca, Wilfried Gnonto and Mateo Retegui are the three centre forwards available for the Azzurri during the current international break.

Argentina-born striker Retegui made his Italy debut against England on Thursday, scoring on his debut with the Azzurri.

Balotelli, who made his last appearance with Italy in 2018, doesn’t agree with his ex-coach and believes there are options for Mancio.

“There are strikers in Italy and they are fit, trust me,” he wrote in an Instagram story on Saturday morning.

He added in a second one: “Regret is the feeling of those who regularly don’t learn the lesson and get there once it’s all finished. Or simply, they never get there.”

Balotelli made his senior Italy debut in August 2010 and has scored 14 goals in 36 appearances with La Nazionale.

He joined Swiss side FC Sion last summer and has scored five goals in 14 league games this term.

  1. He’s referring to himself. He’s lost it completely now thinking 5 goals in 14 games in Swiss league will make him a starter.
