Davide Ballardini admits Genoa were fortunate to pick up a point away to Spezia. ‘It was not a good performance.’

Serie A | Spezia 1-1 Genoa: Liguria Derby draw

The Grifone rode their luck in this Liguria Derby, as after Ebrima Colley’s effort ricocheted in off Salvatore Sirigu, they snatched a late equaliser through Domenico Criscito’s penalty.

“It was not a good performance,” confessed coach Ballardini to Sky Sport Italia.

“We were organised in the first half, but not very effective. We ought to do better in the final third. After going behind, we rather lost our way and Spezia had important chances to double their lead.

“I will admit Spezia deserved something more than we did.”

Felipe Caicedo came off the bench and made the difference, as he was brought down for that late spot-kick by Ivan Provedel.

“Everyone knows Caicedo’s quality. He says that right now he’s got about half-an-hour in his legs, so we can’t wait until we can rely on him for more.”
