The Grifone suffered a 3-1 defeat against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium, but Ballardini was happy with his lads’ performance.

“Genoa improved during the game, and we created goal-scoring opportunities when we were 2-1 down. We played a good game despite a slow start. I liked Genoa today,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I want Genoa to press high up the pitch and keep the ball possession. We went down one man when Zappacosta got injured, and once we conceded the third goal, everything became more complicated.”

Rovella played his first game against Juventus since he signed with the Old Lady in January, but Juan Cuadrado dribbled past him to assist Dejan Kulusevski.

“That’s a situation he should not find himself in. He improves every day. I have no doubts he will reach the level required to play for Juventus.”

Will Ballardini stay at Genoa next season?

“We are focused on this season only, we’ve done well, but it’s not enough.

“We must do even better. We want to do well and get the job done, then we’ll think about the rest.”
