Davide Ballardini confirms Mohamed Fares is out of the Genoa squad to face Spezia. ‘We need a different attitude.’

It kicks off on Tuesday at 17.30 UK time (16.30 GMT) at the Stadio Picco.

This game represents a relegation showdown as well as a Liguria derby, because Spezia have seven points and Genoa are in the bottom three with six.

“Unfortunately, not only are we not recovering any players, we have lost Fares as well,” the coach told Genoa’s official website.

“We must fight for every ball, because this is the moment that Genoa are in. It’s necessary that Genoa know how to fight, play and attack from the first minute to the last.

“I need to see a different attitude to the one against Torino. We must be aggressive, as if we don’t press our opponents, everything becomes more difficult.”

Genoa have conceded 21 goals in nine Serie A games, and while they often staged comebacks to snatch points, they do tend to start poorly.

“I continue to maintain it’s not about individual errors, but as a collective we’ve got to work together. That can help disguise any single mistakes, otherwise without a strong team, the individual is also left exposed.”
