“We need a Genoa in good shape, with confidence in its capabilities, because that’s what is necessary against what I believe is the strongest team in Serie A,” said Ballardini in his press conference.

“We are happy with what we’ve achieved so far, but need to do more going forward, otherwise we’ll quickly forget all of that.

“It’s a big test for Genoa, as we are up against the best and players with great technique and physicality. We are eager to play our game at San Siro and face the strongest team in the league.”

Genoa have not beaten Inter in Milan since 1994 in Serie A, but they also have the Derby della Lanterna coming up against arch-rivals Sampdoria.

“The important thing tomorrow is to put in a good performance, because it’s the only way to get a good result. So our objective is to play well.

“Clearly, we’ll evaluate the line-up with an eye on the derby, but we’re trying to take it one game at a time.”
