Genoa coach Davide Ballardini admitted he is ‘very angry’ after the 3-2 defeat to Torino on Friday night. ‘We made some serious mistakes’.

The Grifone are struggling at the wrong end of the table and Ballardini’s job in Liguria is increasingly uncertain.

Reports in Italy have claimed he is under huge pressure, but the Rossoblu players were fighting for 90 minutes to help their coach.

“I didn’t mind Genoa even in the first half,” Ballardini told DAZN. “We made some serious mistakes. Torino are so strong that if you make mistakes like this you pay for them.

“We had more opportunities.”

Serie A | Torino 3-2 Genoa: pressure increases on Ballardini

Torino were 2-0 up at half time thanks to former Genoa Antonio Sanabria and Milan loanee Tommaso Pobega.

In the second half, Mattia Destro halved the deficit, before Josip Brekalo added a third for the home side. Felipe Caicedo made it 3-2 with 10 minutes remaining and the visitors kept pushing for an equaliser.

Despite the good feelings about his team, Ballardini didn’t manage to hide his anger for the mistakes made during the game.

“I’m very angry because I know the players we have, their human and technical qualities,” he said. “We train and work hard during the week and making these mistakes that compromise the games is not good.

“I’m very, very angry. Especially with myself. Worried, never. But I always think.”

Destro and Caicedo scoret the goals on the night and Ballardini was asked if it’s time for them to start together.

“We are looking forward to having both Destro and Caicedo, and for Caicedo to do what he knows throughout the match,” Ballardini added.

“We can’t wait to see him for more minutes.”
