Genoa coach Davide Ballardini said the match against Spezia ‘represents an important game for the table’.

Ballardini was brought back to replace Rolando Maran and started his current stint against the Aquilotti, but the Grifone’s situation has changed drastically since then.

Genoa coach Davide Ballardini said the match against Spezia ‘represents an important game for the table’.

Ballardini was brought back to replace Rolando Maran and started his current stint against the Aquilotti, but the Grifone’s situation has changed drastically since then.

The coach returned for his fourth period at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and the team have picked up 26 points since the 57-year-old returned and climbed to 14th in the League.

“It was a game that was played against an established team and that had an excellent position in the table,” Ballardini told Genoa Channel.

“That was then. Today, we have the same points. Spezia are a pleasant surprise in this championhip and this is what has happened since that game until today.

“This game represents a very important match for the table. There are a few games to play and each match has an increasingly important weight.”

Genoa forward Goran Pandev scored a brace when the Rossoblu came back twice against Benevento to secure a point against the Streghe last time.

But the coach doesn’t think the relegation battle is over for Genoa and said: “There are top teams behind.

“Therefore, the top-level teams, from now until the end, will certainly perform and score points. Today, I don’t know how many points are needed.”
