Davide Ballardini insists Genoa’s target is ‘close’ despite a 2-1 home defeat against Sassuolo.

“Genoa played a good game against a team that has been following an important path,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“They haven't won against us only. There have been situations that did not favour us, but the commitment and the desire were there,” he added.

A Miha Zajc goal was disallowed in the first half, but Ballardini didn’t want to comment on that.

“It’s not nice to do it. We are angry, but I prefer to talk about the game. Our opponents had quality and organization. We didn’t deserve to lose.

“Three games are remaining, we will obtain what we must.”

Genoa have only collected four points in the last five games and are hovering four points above the relegation zone.

“There is a right concern but also the awareness our goal is close and within our reach," the coach concluded.
