Davide Ballardini says Genoa ‘proved to be a team’ against Atalanta and reveals he predicted La Dea would finish ahead of Juve in the Serie A table this season.

Genoa picked up eight points from four games with Ballardini in the dug-out. Today, they held Atalanta to a 0-0 draw at the Gewiss Stadium.

“We would deserve to score the opener in the first half, while Atalanta improved in the second half, they can create troubles for any opponent,” Ballardini told Sky Sport.

“We should have handled the ball better, but we proved to be a team against a strong opponent that I predicted would finish ahead of Juventus this season.

“We need attention, we need to be compact, I expect what I saw tonight from my players,” he continued.

The Rossoblu are reported to be interested in Atalanta’s Sam Lammers while Kevin Strootman made his debut with the Rossoblu today.

“I have Destro, Scamacca, Pandev, Pjaca, Shomurodov. Five strikers. I think the squad is deep enough,” Ballardini replied.

"Strootman can be very useful if he’s fit, but he is a midfielder. I know Lammers well, I saw him play in Holland, I like him, but I am happy with my strikers.”
