The Giallorossi needed a police escort to travel for today's game due to fierce protests in the wake of three consecutive defeats against Inter, Napoli and Shakhtar Donetsk.

“The protests only serve to make Genoa's job more difficult,” warned Ballardini.

“We will be facing a side desperate to get out of this difficult situation. Roma are still an excellent squad and you cannot doubt their true strength.

“Even with Mirko Vucinic absent, they still have so much talent at their disposal.”

Genoa were given a huge confidence boost following the midweek 1-0 derby win over Sampdoria, a game rescheduled from December due to snow.

“Winning the derby was wonderful, but it's a whole other story against Roma.”
