Gareth Bale assures Wales will ‘want to try and win the group’ in tomorrow’s Euro 2020 head-to-head with Italy. ‘That’s the best way to approach this.’

The Group A match kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Sunday at 17.00 UK time.

Wales go in with four points, while the Azzurri are already qualified for the Round of 16 with six, but top spot is still up for grabs.

“We still have the mentality, we want to try and win the group, try to win the game, that’s the best way to approach this. We’ll be doing all we can to achieve that,” Bale told BBC Sport.

“Italy are the highest ranked team in our group. Obviously, playing in Rome and the Olimpico is great, but we have to treat it like any other game and use the same mindset.”

Wales have so far held Switzerland to a 1-1 draw and beaten Turkey 2-0, while Italy won both their matches by 3-0 scorelines.

“If you can’t get energy from this tournament, you probably shouldn’t be here. We always show that mentality and determination, so this will be no different.”
