The Giallorossi were jeered after the final whistle of their 0-0 draw with BATE Borisov, qualifying for the Champions League Round of 16 thanks to Barcelona’s 1-1 draw away to Bayer Leverkusen.

“We are among the 16 best teams in Europe,” Baldissoni told Roma TV.

“The fact we went through the group stage means we did better than the other teams, regardless of how well we played. We deserve to be there, it is a fact.”

Roma equalled the record set by Zenit in 2013-14 by qualifying with only six points from six games, but do set a new ‘worst’ by going through despite conceding 16 goals.

“The side worked hard and played a very important game under a lot of pressure. A team with confidence manages to play better, but despite all that we stepped on to the field with great determination.

“In my view the jeers weren’t only because of the style of football. Fans can choose whether or not to support the team. Jeers will not help the team and we’d be happier to see more support.

“Having a place in the Champions League knockouts is an objective that improves us. In February things will be very different.”
