Julian Alvarez has been a key figure for Argentina in the World Cup and was sold to Manchester City in January, but Abel Balbo reveals ‘Italian clubs could’ve signed him a year ago for €15m.’

The centre-forward turns 23 next month and came up through the River Plate youth academy.

He was sold to Manchester City in January for €21.4m and remained on loan with that club until the summer.

“I expected Alvarez to really emerge in this tournament, as Julian has been an extraordinary player for five years already,” former Fiorentina and Roma striker Balbo told Libero newspaper.

“I was certain he’d make his mark at the World Cup. I don’t understand how the Italian clubs continue to be caught napping on the transfer market, as they could’ve signed him a year ago for €15m.”

  1. Zanetti tracked him for sometime but then fool Inzaghi prefered to get correa for more than double of what Alvarez could have cost. Alvarez and Tonali are two unforgetable mistakes of Marotta’s era.
