Mitchel Bakker reveals what drew him to Atalanta in a permanent transfer from Bayer Leverkusen. ‘We played two games against them and they were really not easy!’
The former Ajax and Paris Saint-Germain wingback completed the €10m move plus up to €1m in bonuses.
He just turned 23 and plays on the left side of what will be the traditional five-man midfield under Gian Piero Gasperini.
“I chose Atalanta because I like the club. I spoke with the people here, they gave me a really good feeling and I know from last year, as we played against them (in the Europa League),” Bakker told the official website.
“The atmosphere was really good when we played here, the stadium was nice, they have a good team. We played two games against them and they were really not easy!”
There is another Dutchman in the squad that can help Bakker to settle in, as Teun Koopmeiners came to Bergamo from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2021.
“I spoke with Teun about the city, about the club, he was very positive about the team. I hope to play most of the games, to do some nice things with the club. The training ground is good, the people are nice and it’s a warm welcome.”
