Bakayoko to quit Milan and Chelsea for Newcastle

Tiemoue Bakayoko is working to terminate both his contracts with Milan and Chelsea, so he can join Newcastle United as a free agent.

The midfielder is on the Rossoneri bench for this evening’s Serie A game against Sassuolo, but that will be his last for the club.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the plan is to terminate the contract by mutual consent tomorrow.

While Monza and other Premier League sides were mentioned as his next destination, Calciomercato.com are confident the deal is done with Newcastle United.

The 28-year-old was purchased by Chelsea from AS Monaco for €40m in the summer of 2017, but his career has been on a downward trajectory ever since.

Loan spells at Milan, Monaco and Napoli failed to impress, until he was sent back on loan to Milan in August 2021 for €3m with an obligation to buy for a further €17m.

That obligation is only activated if he makes at least 15 appearances in the 2022-23 season, something the Rossoneri have no intention of doing.

Bakayoko is working to rescind the contracts with both Milan and his parent club Chelsea, so he can then join Newcastle United as a free agent.
