Milan midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is confident the club will identify those Lazio fans who targeted him and Franck Kessié with racist abuse yesterday.

Bakayoko has returned to Milan on an initial loan deal from Chelsea and made his first appearance of the season against Lazio coming off the bench on Sunday.

However, his return to San Siro was ruined by a bunch of Lazio fans who chanted a racist song while the player was about to enter the pitch.

Bakayoko responded to racist abuse with an Instagram post where he revealed his teammate Franck Kessié was also targeted by Lazio fans.

“Thank you for the warm welcome Rossoneri. I’m unfortunately injured for my debut but the most important are the 3 points from the team,” he wrote.

“And to some Lazio fans and their racist cries towards me and my brother Franck Kessié we are strong and proud of our skin colour. I have all confidence in our club to identify them.”

It remains to be seen how long Bakayoko will remain out of action due to his injury. Milan face Liverpool on Wednesday in their first Champions League match in more than seven years.

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger showed his support for his former teammate, by commenting on the social media post with a heart emoji.

  1. I don’t think Bakayoko is good enough for Milan but by God I’ll support him to the hilt on this. More disgusting behaviour from some Lazio fans. The Millwall of Italy.

  2. There is no question he looked out of sorts , maybe the idiots ( disgusting really ) got to him . Hope he recovers and can be a key player . DB you are correct , what he showed yesterday would warrant him a spot IMO.

  3. Bakayoko is just terrible, and that first touch before that terrible kick to Acerbi was shameful. Kessi needs to renew…

  4. “…we are strong and proud of our skin colour.”

That’s an interesting thing to say. So being proud of one’s “skin color” okay now?

  5. I remember in his first spell, his first few games he looked like bambi but once he grew into the team he was really strong. Not the best but I can certainly think of worse players to back up Ismael & Franck. Lazio‘s fans are just absolutely dreadful, I’ve never seen such ignorance. It’s a damning indictment for them that their first response is to racially abuse someone. I’m sure their tune would soon change if Akpro scored an overhead bicycle kick from the half way line. There is regional banter in the crowds, which is the same even in England, but the league should step in to isolate these racist incidents and take a hardline stance because the small fines and club satements aren’t enough. It’s always the exact same culprits, if we can tell that as fans why can’t a paid, independent team of experts tell?

  6. Yes DAvid, when you are singled out and vilified because you skin is different, or your hair is different, or you are shoter, or taller. They are proud of what makes them what they are when people in power smash into them for this difference.
When you are in power, and not being vilified for the colour of your skin then that is clearly different.
