Milan have an obligation to buy Tiemoué Bakayoko at the end of the season if the French midfielder collects at least 15 appearances this term, but the 28-year-old is expected to return to Chelsea in June.

The 28-year-old hasn’t yet made his first competitive appearance with the Rossoneri this season and only featured in a friendly encounter against Liverpool earlier this month.

Bakayoko had returned to Milan on a two-year loan deal in 2021 making 18 appearances across all competitions last season.

However, according to Gazzetta, games played last season don’t count in the agreement made by Milan and Chelsea last year.

According to the report, the Rossoneri’s option to buy for €15m becomes an obligation to purchase if Bakayoko plays at least 45 minutes in 15 official games this season.

Stefano Pioli has never relied on the ex-Monaco midfielder in competitive matches this term and is expected to do the same in the remainder of the campaign.

Therefore, Bakayoko will return to Chelsea in the summer unless the two clubs find a different solution in the winter transfer window. Bakayoko’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in June 2024.
