Il Divin Codino was drafted in during the big shake-up of the Italy set-up and appointed President of the Technical Sector eight months ago.

However, it was always a little unclear what exactly his position involved and that still seems to be the case within the Federation.

La Repubblica reports that Baggio is ready to resign because he presented a project worth €7m that will observe and study young players over 60,000 games.

This plan was rejected by Renzo Ulivieri, who had to explain that these issues were down to President of the youth sector Gianni Rivera and Club Italia chiefs Demetrio Albertini and Arrigo Sacchi.

“The technical sector has its own rules,” explained Ulivieri. “Anyone who comes into it has to adapt.

“There was no misunderstanding, as I was the one who explained to Baggio what he had to do. It's not up to me to make these decisions and so far he has done his work diligently.”

Baggio's manager, Vittorio Petrone, insisted the whole situation had been blown out of proportion.

“Roberto is currently in South America and when he reads this, he will be very surprised.”
