Vittorio Parigini opened the scoring after 21 minutes, beating the offside trap to fire a low left-footed shot past Alexander Nübel in the German goal.
Just before half-time though Milan striker Patrick Cutrone was adjudged to have handled in the box, and Gian-Luca Waldschmidt stepped up to covert the resulting penalty.

The same man put the visitors ahead on 48 minutes, dribbling into the box under very little pressure and curling the ball past Emil Audero with his left foot.
The Azzurrini pushed hard to get an equaliser, but were ultimately made to pay for missed chances in the first half.
