Lorenzo De Silvestri and Luca Antonelli praised the people of Genoa following the recent floods that engulfed the area.

The pair of full-backs have been called into the Italy squad for tomorrow's friendly against Albania, but the match has extra significance for both men, as it will be hosted at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris – the home of their respective club sides.

“For the Genoese people, it will be a night of normality and festivity to be a little carefree,” Sampdoria defender De Silvestri explained at a Press conference.

“I know it will be difficult, as I've also stayed at home through these times. It’s been impressive how the Angeli del Fango [support workers nicknamed Angels of Mud] managed to shovel the city in two days.

“I’d like to underline the strength of character that all the Genoese people had during these moments. This match will be a different way of helping the city.”

Genoa captain Antonelli added: “We will try to grab the attention of Genoese people and let them enjoy a few hours of fun.

“They have a big heart, strong will and showed it through these times.

“Albania are a team that should be taken with caution, given their recent results, but we are prepared and ready to play a good game.”
