Several Italy players are on a yellow card when the Azzurri host North Macedonia in the 2022 World Cup play-offs and risk missing out on a possible Final against either Turkey or Portugal.

The Azzurri qualified for the play-offs in the World Cup Qualifiers with a second place behind Switzerland in the group stage and were seeded in the draw on Friday.

But despite the favourable position in the draw, Roberto Mancini’s men faced a tough route to Qatar 2022.

But several of the Italy players risk losing a players in the semi-final, as the Azzurri enter the play-offs with many of their stars one yellow card away from suspension.

Italy will face the winner in the match between Portugal and Turkey and play the Final away from home, in either Lisbon or Istanbul.

Italy players on a yellow card ahead of North Macedonia in the World Cup play-off:

Federico Chiesa (Juventus)
Federico Bernardeschi (Juventus)
Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus)
Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli)
Matteo Pessina (Atalanta)
Rafael Toloi (Atalanta)
Nicolò Barella (Inter)
Sandro Tonali (Milan)
Lorenzo Pellegrini (Roma)
Gianluigi Donnarumma (Paris Saint-Germain)

  1. I would like to know which Portugal players are on yellow. They should likely beat turkey but it can also be close.

The Italy list is scary, if 2/3 key players go missing, it’ll be very difficult away to Portugal

  2. Won’t matter they will all be injured and no way they beating Portugal in Lisbon no matter who plays . They are out yet again

  3. According to an article I read last week, FIFA are most likely going to wipe out all the yellow cards for all 12 teams with 107 total players on yellow.

“FIFA is set to approve a yellow-card amnesty that would prevent players from being banned for the UEFA World Cup playoff finals through accumulated bookings.”

  4. Donnarumma, Chiellini, Barella, Insigne and Chiesa better be careful. They’re all first team players. Why are so many on a yellow card anyway?

Geez, nothing going our way. We really blew our chance in the group games SMH

  5. No excuses you needed to beat Switzerland and had 2 penalties late in both games, but missed. They played average in all those games. Everyone keeps saying Italy vs Portugal. The way Italy and Portugal are playing they could lose against their semi final opponents. Personally I think Italy got the easiest semi final of any team. Czech, Poland, remember Austria all worse opponents.

  6. Let me save you some time with this misleading article, all yellows are wiped clean! It’s a clean slate…

  7. It doesn’t matter who plays they’re not going to Qatar anyways… Let them beat north Macedonia 1st

  8. If we cant win these 2 games then we dont deserve to be in Qatar and hopefully it will force a clearout starting with Insigne, Immobile, Jorginho, Emerson and yes Bonucci. Too many players believe their own hype.

  9. This whole playoffs are a joke lads
All of these countries should be in the World Cup
They should have the second tier countries battle it out
    Not these countries
Use the world rankings to decide who is in and save the players playing qualifying games as they play enough .
Make the san Marrinos etc etc play the qualifying games to get to World Cup
The top 10 ranking countries should be in the World Cup
The top 4 who play out euros in
    And rest should qualify !
This is a better format and saves players from playing so many games and makes the rankings worth something !

  10. That doesn’t even make sense. Only for the reason that WCQ’fiers represent a large calculation of the Rankings.

You want perceived strength over on field Results. Let’s stop.

  11. @Dino and DC…

    1. If this is true, thank you for offering a positive perspective.

    2. Where can we research this. Fifa website I presume.

    3. We could be reinforced with tge return of Spinazzola, Kean, and perhaps with the inclusion of the three BrZilian Italian nationals.

    4. Perhaps Mancini could call up Il Faraone as well.

  12. Assuming we get through Macedonia, it’s all going to come down to who is available for Italy against Portugal. Spinazzola and Pellegrini will add a lot to the side, Chiellini needs to be nursed through to the final because he is still our best defender and the true leader of the team. In 4 month’s time, we may have more options upfront – including Zaniolo, Joao Pedro, Politano, El Sherawy – we certainly won’t win in Portugal with Immobile leading the line and wasteful Insigne.
Mancini also needs to think about his midfield – should Verratti continue to play alongside Jorginho? These two play too similar to each other and give us little going forward and don’t score goals like Pellegrini, Locatelli, Barella and Pessina. Best to just play one of them because we need goals coming from midfield given our limitations up front.
Final point – Di Lorenzo cannot play at full back against Ronaldo, Felix, Jota et all as he has more holes in his defending than swiss cheese and doesn’t drive forward enough. Calabria must be played. The Euros are in the past – time to freshen up the team.

  13. Cards are wiped out due to a new rule
what has not yet been wiped out and will be is this lubricous playoff that italy has no business being in, here take a look

Please open an inquiry over disturbing info regarding Switzerland National Team

    Good afternoon,
An article has been published regarding disturbing info involving Switzerland National Team, direct quote from this article is as follows:
Switzerland kept their promise to the Northern Ireland national team, as coach Murat Yakin posted 9.3kg of Swiss chocolate to thank them for denying Italy in the World Cup qualifiers.

Please open an inquiry over this disturbing information regarding Switzerland National Team.

    Thank you

-Anyone who truly cares about Italy need to voice their concern over this finding

  14. Draw not rigged, but POR V TURKEY will be rigged. There’s no way in this financial climate that FIFA want a WC without arguably the most marketable player. They’ll move heaven and earth to make sure CR plays in the WC.

  15. And that’s why we need to score clear goals, be smart in the tackling, none of our Defenders going to ground when in the Box. All 50/50 calls are going to go the way of the Home Team in R3. Especially if it’s Portugal. Especially if it’s Ronaldo.

Gigio needs to call Raiolo ASAP and get out of Paris. We need him in form. We could go to PK’s.

  16. They fully deserve to be in this position . After they won they got a little to cocky with bonucci running his mouth and Jorginho dying his hair blonde like that English player. Well karma is a you know what and they looks like fools. Good luck beating Portugal or Turkey away if you even get there . Absolutely pathetic, only this national team is capable of such embarrassment

  17. Do you honestly think Jorginho was mocking Phil Foden? Not a flippin chance.

But the rest, I agree. They got arrogant and the Football Gods weren’t having any of that. Us supporters are allowed, not them.

They lost their hunger, had pre-made excuses ready of “miraculous Bulgarian GK stopped everything tonight” and “We never do well in September because the season is only 2 weeks old”.

This one annoys me the most. Every qualifying cycle since I’ve been watching them, this is the one that rears it’s ugly head non-stop. NO OTHER NT MAKES THIS *PRE-MADE* EXCUSE. But in Italy it’s the one that is used every second September. The media runs with it instead of asking the CT or players that no other NT makes this alibi. So now it has become acceptable to drop valuable Points in the September matches.

On top of that, when you only have 8 Matches as opposed to some other Groups that had 10 Matches, the value of each match increases.

8 Qualifiers: 4 Wins Pre Euro, 4 Draws Post Euro.

Now it is on like Donkey Kong.

  18. @ Mike it’s obvious you have a problem with Italy team , but what I don’t understand is what you are doing here, when you should be managing your time wisely.

  19. Whatever you do, please do not have Mike in the Staff with the Azzurri. We might as well not turn up with someone like Mike.

  20. Absolutely right Eddie. All the teams that came second should have qualified and not the second rated tier in the World. Regardless how it will go, I will FOREVER SUPPORT ITALY. They made me proud. I saw them reach 6 finals with 4 cups. How can anybody be ungrateful for this. However, every time we either do not perform well or do not win, they always get criticised. Very unfair indeed. I love the way us Italians think, we play a game at a time. First we need to beat North Macedonia and then hopefully get to the final. All the odds were against us in Argentina 78 and we won 1 nil against Argentina, All odds against us in 1982 against Argentina and Brazil and yet we won it. All odds against us in Germany and yet we beat Germany where they never lost in 63 years and went on and won it. All odds against us against England in their back yard and yet won it. As a matter of fact England were very luck not to have lost the game so sorry for all those of you that are so negative, where there is a will, there is a way…… Forza Azzurri

  21. Do the Italy “fans” on this site ever calm down? Shocking levels of non support. Non stop criticism when the real reason they’re in the playoffs is because of one person. If Jorginho converts even just one of the two penalties he missed, Italy are in the World Cup. It is HIS fault. Frankly embarrassing. All you read on this site is pessimism.

  22. So what is it? Are the cards wiped clean or not? I’ve heard 3 things about it.

    – they are.

    – they aren’t.

    – currently are not wiped clean but the idea to wipe them is being considered.

I honestly think it’s better they are NOT wiped. Renato Sanches and Cancelo are a big part of what they do. Although I’m tols Cancelo is much better for City than he is for Portugal. Sanches, another undisputed starter for them.

    Were we are concerned.

    – Chiesa: By far the most important player for us. If he’s out of the Final, we’re in trouble.

    – Berna: Dispite his haters, he will be on the Playoff team and is a Rigorista for us.

    – Chiellini: Reference point on the backline. Don’t know what Mancio has in mind for having him play 2 matches in 1 week.

    – Lorenzo Insigne: Digressing, yes, but he’s due for us. Want to see if his spark with Spina returns.

    – Matteo Pessina: a bit player but maybe needs to be in more instead of Insigne.

    – Rafael Toloi: Bit player.

    – Nicolò Barella: Would be a huge loss. He needs to keep his nose clean.

    – Sandro Tonali: With Verratti and Loca ahead of him in the pecking order, we can handle this one.

    – Lorenzo Pellegrini: Something tells me this will be a moot point because he will be injured by the time the Playoffs arrive. We should have enough cover, especially if Joao Pedro is drawn in.

    – Gigio: We need the kid for his PK stopping ability.

If we can make short work of North Macedonia, the preasure to commit Fouls decreases.

    FORZA AZZURRI

  23. ^^^ Thanks.

I don’t like it. Only because I want Portugal out and with no Sanches or Cancelo versus Turkey they could be in trouble.

  24. And Turkey have more players on cards than all teams.

I hope they are not wiped.

We risk Chiesa, sure. Hate that, but on Euro 2020 he wasn’t a starter until the Belgium match, iirc.

Hard for GK’s to get cards. So Gigio, I’m not too concerned.

Wiping cards only strengthens Portugal and Turkey.
