All the questions ahead of the game were about the transfer market, especially as Sampdoria striker Schick seems to be on the verge of a move to Roma for €38m.

“There are many talented players who Inter like, but there is a big difference between liking a player and buying him,” Ausilio told Mediaset Premium.

“That was the case for Schick. We thought the deal could be done for certain figures, then when those numbers changed, considering the Financial Fair Play parameters, we had to be honest enough to wave other clubs through.

“Dalbert and Cancelo are ready physically, but when it comes to defenders you need to take a while to introduce them so they know the dynamics and tactical movements. The break for international duty will be important for that.”

Ausilio was also asked about reports Inter had resumed negotiations with Lazio for Keita Balde Diao.

“As things stand, we are covered in all areas. We are trying to find a centre-back, but only at certain conditions. If someone should leave up front, then we could think about doing something.”
