Inter director Piero Ausilio discussed his new role, Javier Zanetti’s Chelsea links and the Mirko Vucinic-Fredy Guarin debacle.

With Marco Branca’s departure, Ausilio has been promoted to the new role of responsible for the technical area.

“Do I miss Branca? He is a friend and gave me a great deal, but working alone is not a problem for me. I’d be happy to win as much as he did at Inter,” Ausilio told Radio Deejay.

“President Erick Thohir knows full well it takes time to do things right, without taking people for a ride. I think this is the right path and we have a Coach with the right sense of responsibility to lead this project.”

Last month’s transfer window saw Hernanes come in from Lazio” data-scaytid=”20″>Lazio, but the proposed Guarin-Vucinic exchange with Juventus” data-scaytid=”22″>Juventus collapsed at the last minute.

“The meeting with Juve did happen, there’s no point denying it, but it wasn’t concluded because there were elements that made us think it wasn’t a good idea. That had nothing to do with pressure from the fans.

“The important thing to remember is that we hadn’t reached an economic agreement yet. Now we are happy to have Fredy, just as Juve are to have Vucinic.

“As for Ishak Belfodil, it’s not true that we spent €10m for him. I’d say it was no more than €6m, which is money we saved on Antonio Cassano’s wages by sending him to Parma in the summer. Therefore, Belfodil was practically a free transfer.”

Reports emerged over the past few days that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wants to be reunited with Zanetti, offering the 40-year-old a new contract.

“He has a rapport of great respect with Mourinho, but he wants to continue with Inter. Now with Thohir he will sit down and find a solution to understand what is best for Inter and for us.

“As for the players whose contracts are running down, Thohir was clear that we’ll delay any decision until the end of the season, but our plan is to lower the average age of the squad.

“Therefore for Nemanja Vidic coming in, we need to make other adjustments.”

Inter and Vidic’s agent have confirmed a deal is done to sign the Manchester United player when he’s out of contract in June.
