Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has denied that a clause in Walter Mazzarri’s contract could see him leave the club if certain targets are not met.
Tuttosport reported in July that Mazzarri’s one-year contract extension contained a ‘Ranieri clause’ allowing the club to remove the Coach for an agreed fee if the team failed to meet expectations, similar to the deal which allowed the club to remove Claudio Ranieri.
In facing the Press today however, Ausilio was quick to refute such rumours.
“There is no clause,” the director has told assembled journalists after a meeting of Inter shareholders.
“It is a contract for the two seasons, because we already extended the existing contract by a year.
“There are only incentives added a fixed fee, so there are only positive clauses.
“Success could mean doing well in the Europa League, while others are more ambitious and may be more related to getting into the Champions League.”
Ausilio also spoke about Inter’s start to the season, which sees the Nerazzurri in ninth place in Serie A after seven games.
“The direction we want to take is that we saw yesterday [against Napoli]. We’ve only lost two games this season.
“There are many players who returned to pre-season training in top condition, some of whom were at the World Cup, whereas others game back injured like Palacio and Medel.
“These are things which I don’t want to offer as excuses, but anyone who knows football knows these things can hamper a team.”
