Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio sees the squad as “complete”, so there will be no January spending spree.

The Nerazzurri brought in a large number of players this summer, but announced a €45m loss as accounts were presented today.

“It would be a mistake to have a transfer campaign in January as impressive as the one in the summer, or last winter,” Ausilio told assembled media.

“We have a complete team. Maybe we have too many players, and in January we’ll have to give some of the lads space elsewhere.

“In recent weeks we’ve been playing well, if there’s an opportunity to improve the team, and take another step forward then we’ll take it.

“We’re convinced the team is already very good though, they just have to grow as a team. We’re second, but we’ve been accused of not playing good football.

“In reality we’ve only been playing together recently. [Ivan] Perisic and [Adem] Ljajic have only had five or six training sessions with [Coach Roberto] Mancini, Miranda and [Jeison] Murillo maybe even less.

“We need to have patience with those who need to grow here, then with Mancini’s work the team will be where it needs to be.

“Then maybe there’ll be no need to intervene in January.”

CEO Michael Bolingbroke then gave a breakdown of the club’s on-field targets for this season.

“Obviously we’d love to be in the Champions League, as Inter’s ambition is top-three every year.

“As a club we have to think the Scudetto is within out reach every year, and that’s our expectation. We expect to be in the Champions League every year, but obviously things can happen and you don’t make it, but the idea is to be there.

“If we’re in the Europa League we’ll adapt, but as a club we need a long-term strategy. If you don’t have a strategy, you can’t grow.

“The Champions League is the long-term goal, that’s the project. But there could be years [in between] in the Europa League, or out of Europe.”
