Inter director Piero Ausilio confirms the Nerazzurri are in talks to sign Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski on free transfers and is confident Lautaro Martinez and Nicolò Barella will sign a contract extension.

Ausilio spoke to Italian reporters on Wednesday after the event ‘Amico dei Bambini’ in Milan.

The Nerazzurri sporting director confirmed that the club are confident Lautaro Martinez, Inter’s best scorer this season, will sign a new contract, extending his stay at the Stadio Meazza beyond 2026.

“There is confidence because we have the same intention on both sides,” said Ausilio as quoted by Gazzetta.

“We both want to extend the deal and of course, talks are ongoing, so patience is needed. We have different timings from fans and the media, but I am sure we’ll reach an agreement that satisfies both parties. That’s what we want.

“What I said about Lautaro, is also true of Barella and renewals of all other important players. We have many. We started with the most urgent ones that were expiring, and we are continuing with long-term plans for Barella and Lautaro.”

The Nerazzurri are in talks to sign Taremi and Zielinski on free transfers and Ausilio provided the latest updates on the two possible deals.

“We are working on these situations; we don’t love to impose a timing; nobody has an ultimatum. We have informed their clubs that negotiations are ongoing, we’ll see if talks bring to something official.”

The Nerazzurri will meet their former striker Romelu Lukaku and ex-transfer target Paulo Dybala in a key Serie A game against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico this coming Saturday.

“We don’t play against Dybala and Lukaku. We play against Roma, a strong side that has won the last three games. They have changed coach, we’ll play in a sold-out stadium, but Inter will be determined to continue on our path.”

Inter are the current table leaders with a four-point lead over Juventus and a game in hand. Simone Inzaghi’s side have won 18 games from 22 in Serie A this term.
