“We’ve been working with [Claudio] Ranieri for one year. We improved after the lockdown, we played a game every three days and we survived Serie A relegation with four games to go.” the former Juventus keeper told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We are doing well this season, apart from the first two games. We understood what the coach wants," he continued.
“There is the right mentality but our identity is still to be defined. I feel good with the daily work, there was desire for redemption.”
Audero assisted Valerio Verre in Sampdoria’s 2-1 away win at Fiorentina.
“I tried to overtake the defenders with a long pass. We used to do it a lot under [Marco] Giampaolo,” he said.
“It always depends on the situation: clubs like Sassuolo and Manchester City use the goalkeeper so much in this sense, he is seen as a moving player, other tacticians make a more moderate use of it.”
The 23-year-old is now dreaming of an Italy call-up.
“Of course it’s a target that I have but it’s not an obsession. Every year was important in my career, when I was Juventus’ third goalkeeper I used to train with a group of top players and I tried to steal training secrets of Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain and Gigi Buffon," he concluded.
