Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang feels “very fortunate” to have come up through the Milan youth system.

The forward came through at the Rossoneri, but he never made a first team appearance before leaving Saint-Étienne.

Now playing for the Gunners, the Gabon international will be in the stands as his side take on the Diavolo in the Europa League tonight.

“When I was at Milan, I was very young, with very little experience,” Aubameyang recalled, speaking to Arsenal’s official website.

“When I was at Milan, I was very young, with very little experience,” Aubameyang recalled, speaking to Arsenal’s official website.

“But it was there that I learned how to become a professional. I was lucky because there were lots of top players there at the time, like [Paolo] Maldini, [Alessandro] Nesta, Kaka, [Clarence] Seedorf, Ronaldo.

“I was quite shy as a person, but I was keen to watch what these top players did and I learned a lot that way.

“My family? They’ll be supporting Arsenal of course, even though the whole family grew up in Milan. We were lucky enough to come through at that club, but life has gone in this way, and now we're supporting Arsenal.

“At home they'll be cheering on Arsenal. But of course we still have a lot of respect for them. They helped us a great deal – the whole family. We were very fortunate to spend time there.”
