Italian sports papers praise Memphis Depay following Inter‘s Champions League elimination against Atletico Madrid as the Dutch forward ‘changed the game’ at the Civitas Metropolitano.

Depay was introduced with only ten minutes remaining last night but was a crucial player in the Colchoneros’ victory over Inter. The Dutchman was the MOTM on Wednesday, according to all Italian sports papers.

He was rated 8.5/10 by Tuttosport, 7.5 by Il Corriere dello Sport and 8 by Gazzetta.

The pink paper wrote that Depay ‘changed the game’ in Madrid. In just ten minutes, he hit the post and scored a late goal that sent the game to extra time. Depay didn’t even disappoint from the spot, beating Yann Sommer in the penalty shootout.

Other Atletico Madrid players received high ratings from Italian papers, including Jan Oblak, Axel Witsel and Antoine Griezmann, scorer of the equaliser in the first half, just three minutes after Federico Dimarco’s opener.

On the other hand, many Inter players were highly disappointing, while Sommer was the Nerazzurri’s MPV against Atletico, according to Italian newspapers.

  1. Riquelme is a very interesting player. Played fantastically well when coming on. Put Inter‘s right side on the Backfoot, and beautifully put away the pen as well. Very impressive.
