Atletico Madrid talent scouts were present at the Stadio Via del Mare this evening to keep track of three Lecce players against Sassuolo.

The game ended 1-0 for Sassuolo thanks to a deflected Kristian Thorstvedt header from a Domenico Berardi corner, while Gabriel Strefezza missed a sitter.

According to Sport Mediaset reporter Marco Barzaghi, there were representatives from Atletico Madrid in the stands for tonight’s match.

It is believed they were keeping a particular eye on three Lecce players, namely Morten Hjulmand, Valentin Gendrey and Joan Gonzalez.

Hjulmand is the captain of the Lecce side that earned promotion from Serie B last season and was already the subject of some Premier League offers in the January transfer window, but the Salentini turned down €13m for the Danish midfielder.

Gendrey is a 22-year-old right-back, while Gonzalez is a 21-year-old central midfielder who spent time in the Barcelona youth academy before moving to Lecce in 2021.
