Lazio have qualified for the Champions League Round of 16, as Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid did them a favour beating Feyenoord this evening.

In the earlier kick-off, Ciro Immobile had come off the bench to score twice and secure their 2-0 victory over rock bottom Celtic.

That put them on 10 points, meaning if Feyenoord lost at home to Atleti, then qualification would be secured with a game to spare.

Former Lazio midfielder Simeone is now the coach of Atletico Madrid and his team got the job done, leaving Rotterdam with a 3-1 result.

This has Atleti as the Group E leaders on 11 points, followed by Lazio on 10 and both of them have booked their place in the Round of 16.

They go head-to-head in the final match at the Wanda Metropolitano to decide who takes top spot.

Feyenoord enter the Europa League play-offs and Celtic are out of Europe on just one point from five games.

  1. No man, stop it. That title makes it look like Lazio should be grateful and thank Atleti, whilst the way I see it (and I’d argue is closer to reality) is that anything but a win for the Spaniards and Lazio would be 1st in the group right now, as with a draw they would sit on 9pts.

Now, would you claim it’s gifted of Lazio sits top of the group? Even without, they are 1 point off with a game to go.

    C’mon…
